Affiliate Programs Explained

By: Ian Simpson

More people are discovering the power of affiliate marketing to supplement or even replace their existing income. But there are even more people who would like to have a slice of this exciting world but are unsure exactly what an affiliate program is or what it consists of.

When discussing an affiliate program, it helps to compare it to a traditional networking company where a network of salespeople and distributors are recruited to sell their products to all corners of the globe.

As an example, instead of a company selling directly to their customers it sells products through a series of distributors and salespeople. In turn, the members of this distribution and sales network enjoy a very good living by promoting the products made by others.

In essence, the affiliate programs found on the internet are distribution and sales efforts taken to the online world. The affiliate web site takes the place of the distributor and sales network, and the individual is paid by the seller of the product when a sale is made. Of course there are affiliate programs where physical products have to be shipped but there are also many other affiliate programs where only software or informational products have to be downloaded.

It is easy to understand why this arrangement is so popular, from the point of view of both the merchant and the owner of the web site. The merchant benefits from increased sales and at the same time, does not have to pay for additional advertising and he can expand his network without the need for additional and sometimes expensive advertising. The affiliate on the other hand may not have a product of his own to make money from and selling someone else’s product for a share of the selling price gives him the opportunity to start his own business.

Of course, effort is required on the part of the affiliate to promote his website and the product he is trying to sell. There are many ways that an affiliate program can be promoted. An example would be if the affiliate already has a website and a link added directly to the merchant site. It costs nothing to set up and is very easy to do with a little cut and paste.

All good affiliate programs will have a back office with tools to use and it is always advisable to protect your affiliate links and therefore your commissions, by disguising your links so that they are not chopped off or used by anyone else. You can find a good program to use to prevent theft of your commission at http://www.1st-4-income.com/stopcommissiontheft.html.

Commissions paid by merchants vary. You can expect anything up to 70% or even more with some affiliate programs, but these will mainly be software downloads. If you go to Clickbank you will find thousands of such programs to promote. With these kinds of commissions, it is easy to see why the promotion of software type programs is such a great way to make money online. At the other end of the scale though some affiliate programs pay a pittance, as low as 1.5% in some cases and you will have to ask yourself if these will be worth the effort.

Affiliate programs are very popular on the internet. If you do not have your own product to sell and you want to have a shot at earning some money on the internet, then affiliate marketing is the way to go. Give a little time, effort and patience and you will be rewarded. So if you’re not already familiar with the concept of affiliate marketing, why not check it out?

You have created a blog and your blog is dedicated to a niche industry. Have you ever thought that the blog could make money for you? We would look here in this article, ways and means, to make money blogging. Lets first have a look at what are the prerequisites for a blog needed to make money:

1. Blog needs to be dedicated to a niche market.

2. Updated regularly.

3. Enough back links (Don’t worry for it. Directory submission would be enough to begin with)

4. Good blog host or application (blogger, Xanga or typepad recommended), and

5. High quality articles or news items supported with images.

Get the above criteria in place and Hurrah… You are ready to make money blogging.

Top 5 Ways to Make Money Blogging

Lets now take a look at top 5 ways using which you could make money blogging:

1. Google Adsense Google Adsense delivers text and image ads to the authorized websites/blogs depending on the content of the website. Small code is required to be pasted at proper locations on a webpage and Google automatically recognizes the page. Google shares the revenue it gets from the advertisers whenever a visitor clicks on these ads.Google bills advertisers on price per click basis (PPC). Advertisers are required to pay only when any visitor clicks on their ads. They bid against each other for the keywords in order to receive better placement and thus prices for each keyword differ from one another. It is better to choose keywords for your blog which pays high $ per click.
2. Amazon Amazon Associate program is another important way to make money blogging. The Amazon Associate program gives opportunity to website/blog publishers to promote any product from its inventory by adding a predefined code to their website/blog, which, when clicked by a visitor, takes them to the relevant product page. Once the visitor buys the product, the blog owner will be compensated with a commission.
3. Blogads You can use Blogads as an effective tool to have a better control over the advertisers in your blogs. You can analyze and compare your profits with any one of your online agencies. Blogads can be simply specified as an advertising service used for the web logs or blogs. From the total money generated by Blogads, it retains 20% of it and the remaining money is paid to you through PayPal or checks.

    Alternative Services:

  • Crispads is another useful network focused on the blogs. You can put your advertisements in their blogs using Crispads. You can move through their RSS/ATOM feeds that help in generating revenues.
  • Tagword – It is similar to Blogads. It makes you select the ads and their price.

Users can place their text-based ads in the site within minutes and the ads will be displayed instantly on the website.

4. Affiliate Programs Your affiliate programs can help you earn a lot of money for selected products and services. Lot of websites offers you to become affiliate members. These affiliate programs can provide a better reach and an in-depth exposure to the products. The commissions for the sales differ according to the quality of the product, sales and marketing strategy involved. You can gather information related to the commissions by looking into the catalogues of Link Share and Commission junctions.
5. Text Links Text links has emerged out to be the best form of moneymaking source that you can use instead of cluttering or crowding the page with ads. You don’t have to make these text links prominent within your website. This link can act as an extra value to your site and will also help to promote the rankings of other sites. In most of the cases you will find these text links placed in the bottom of the web pages. The best part of this strategy is that the publishers send and accept links as the market continues to grow.

How to Find the Right Host for Your Web Site

By Andrew LaPointe

Developing a professional web presence requires a comprehensive strategy to ensure success. The most important element to the overall success of your website is your hosting service. Your hosting service cannot guarantee your site will succeed, but it can surely devastate it. No matter what applications  you use (streaming video, audio, discussion forums, etc.) or plug-ins (Flash and Shockwave), if your visitors cannot load your site within a few seconds your finished. Recent studies have shown that you only have 20 seconds to grab your visitor’s attention. The longer it takes your site to go from download-to-live, the less time you have to retain your visitors. Remember, your competition is only one click away.

The best way to choose a web hosying company  is to follow these six suggestions. Remember, selecting the right web hosting company is vital to your success on the Internet.

Determine how much disk storage space and how much monthly data transfer your site requires? Disk storage space refers to the amount of server space allocated to your account. The files that make up your website are stored in your storage space. These files include your html files, audio/video, graphics, etc. The data transfer is how much data your site transmits each month. Generally, data transfer includes any outbound traffic from your site, with the exception of e-mails. In general an average HIT is about 10K. This would mean that a monthly data transfer account of 2.0 Gigabyte would allow approximately 200,000 hits. Remember, if your data transfer rate is higher than the amount allocated by your hosting company you will have to pay for any extra data transfer.

How should you Host? There are three different ways to host your site. The three ways are shared hosting , dedicated hosting and colocated hosting. Shared hosting means that your site is positioned among other “websites” on a single machine. This type of hosting is usually adequate for the majority of “text-n-gif” sites. Dedicated hosting refers to your own dedicated machine. As you add more interactive elements to your site, you may want to consider a dedicated host. The final is a colocated server. You own the server, but it is located in your host’s facility. You chose the bandwidth and your host provides the access.

How Much Technical Support do you Need? Do you need 24/7 live technical support or do you only work on your website during business hours? If you only work on your site during business hours, you probably don’t need 24/7 technical support, so why pay for it. However, you need to determine how much on-demand support you need for your site.

What Features are Included? Does your hosting package support e-commerce, multi-media, database, etc? These type of features should be included in even the basic of packages. If these are not, look elsewhere.

Make sure the ownership of your domain remains in your name. Some hosting companies place their name in the Administration and Technical Support of the domain registration. Query the Whois.net database (whois.net) to ensure your name is recorded in these positions. If the hosting company is listed, contact them and have it changed. If they refuse, transfer your business to another hosting company.

What is the Attitude of the Employees? Is the telephone answered in a friendly and courteous manner? Is the technical support department helpful? These are the people you will be dealing with for many years to come. Make sure it is a pleasurable experience.

Make sure to answer the proceeding six questions before you select a company to host your website. Remember, the web is global, just because you live in a certain city, doesn’t matter you should host your site with a local company. If a local hosting company doesn’t provide quality customer service, high-quality hosting and competitive pricing, it is very simple to locate a company that does provide exactly what you need.

10 Biggest Mistakes In Affiliate Marketing And How To Avoid Them

Though anyone can achieve success with affiliate programs, not everyone manages to do the same. The reason? Well, there are 10 of them, actually. These are the biggest mistakes that make success in affiliate marketing very elusive. Study them well, and read up on how to avoid them. Hurdling through these mistakes can spell the difference between monumental profits and dismal performance in your affiliate marketing campaigns.

1) Believing that people would just click on their affiliate links. Though an affiliate’s job is merely limited to pre-selling, pre-selling involves more than just displaying the affiliate links. It also entails encouraging people to click on them by enumerating the benefits that can be derived from the affiliate merchant’s products, giving favorable recommendations about the use of the same, and providing an encouraging offer that would entice readers to check out the package.

2) Believing that there’s such a thing as organic traffic. Organic traffic, or traffic that is naturally generated by a website is a myth. There is no such thing! If you’re hosting your affiliate links in one website, you can’t expect people to find it just like that. You have to make them find it. This can be done through effective SEO techniques and efficient marketing strategies.

3) Believing that employing one marketing strategy is enough. Some people actually think that submitting one article to the article directories would give them the amount of traffic they need. This is a fatal mistake. Limiting yourself to a single, or even a couple, of marketing tactics would be limiting the number of visitors you could generate for your website. Also, you’ll fail to tap into other segments of your targeted market if your tactics aren’t flexible enough to expand.

4) Failing to study your campaign’s performance. Most affiliates merely check on how much they have earned per day, and if such an amount remains at low levels, they fail to make corresponding adjustments because, well, they don’t know which aspects of their campaigns need improving. It is important to study every facet of our marketing strategies. How many visitors are we generating for our website? How many of them are unique? How many are returning? How much time do they spend in our pages? Where are they coming from? To where are they exiting? These are the questions that can be answered by an excellent visitor tracking software program  and these are the questions that could help us improve the performance of our marketing endeavors.

5) Failing to find an affiliate program which actually offers sellable products. Some affiliate programs may offer as much as a 95% commission per sale. But if the products are impossible to sell, you’d never realize the profit the program promises.

6) Failing to find an affiliate program with a proven record of consumer satisfaction. The credibility of an enterprise depends on how people view it. If the affiliate program has established great relationships with the members of its target market, then it has established a brand which is recognizable for its excellent service. You’d have an easier time pre-selling such an affiliate program’s products.

7) Failing to keep abreast with the latest developments in the industry. There will come a time when the marketing knowledge we know would become obsolete, more so in the field of internet marketing where everything transpires at a rapid pace. You have to constantly update yourself with the newest trends, techniques and news in this field to always keep your competitive edge.

8) Failing to invest on knowledge. Knowledge likewise evolves and you have to evolve with it. Buy noteworthy eBooks, special reports and the likes which would teach you the latest tactics to help you conquer your field.

9) Resting on your laurels once a semblance of success is achieved. Success is not eternal. You have to sustain it. If you leave your business alone once it shows the promise of success, you’re just setting it up for failure.

10) Believing that affiliate marketing is a “get rich quick” scheme. It is not. You have to invest a certain level of commitment, a lot of time, some financial resources on occasions, and a whole lot of effort if you want to truly realize the many wonderful things that this field does promise.

No such thing as get rich quick

Everywhere you go on the internet there is someone trying to sell you a get rich quick program that they claim will make you money OVERNIGHT ! If this is true then why are they trying to sell you the program instead of using it them selves?

Sure they make it sound so real and actually make it sound like a very cheap investment for what you are going to get out of it

Please don’t fall for these scam’s! Selling you a program that promises you a large income overnight is there way to get rich! They are getting rich off of people like you and me because we are like money hungry fish in a small pond just waiting for a opportunity like this to come along and set us free from our financial burdens.

We all do it. We all want something for free and it just isn’t going to happen that way. I would hate to even try and count how many times I fell for the get rich scam’s at only $29.95 per pop. My friend, $29.95 adds up to big bucks when you try different things over and over again. I had a add saved in my emails that caught my eye 6 months before I even gave them a call. The add was for a web hosting company called SITE BUILD IT or SBI The problem was that it was going to cost me $200.00 per year for there services.

I thought to my self that they are crazy ! I’m having enough problems forking out $29.95 for the programs I have been purchasing, what makes them think I’m going to hand out $200.00 . I finally did go to there website and read about what they had to offer. I didn’t just read it, I studied it! After going over all the information they had on there website, (which is tons)I thought to my self, these people have everything! They are a complete program from top to bottom and side to side.

SITE BUILD IT was the answer to my questions years ago. Yes your right, it was the $200.00 that kept me from trying there services and it was the biggest mistake I had ever made when it comes to making money on line.

I finally did call SITE BUILD IT and talk to them on the phone. They told me that if I was not satisfied with there service with in 30 days that they would give me a full refund. (I wish I could get a refund on all the $29.95 programs I purchased.) I gave them a try and forked out the $200.00 and crossed my fingers. My friends, this website that you are on isn’t but 6 or 7 months old and it brings in approximately $150.00 per week just as an affiliate and google adsense. No, I am not getting rich but I am a whole lot better off with the extra income coming in per week. As far as I know SITE BUILD IT has a payment plan to help with the yearly fee.

There is just to much for me to mention and cover in this blog about SITE BUILD IT so I really encourage you to visit there site and not only read what they have to offer but STUDY it. SITE BUILD IT doesn’t just host your website, they promote it and get it ranked for you. They work for you! I promise that they will help you complete your goals if you just give them a chance. They will give you all the tools and ideas you need to be successful at making a living online with your own website.
Go check them out and study what they have to offer, call them and talk to them in person. You dont have to purchase anything just to call and get information. SITE BUILD IT was my way out and they could be yours to.

Building a Successful Work at home Webstite With SBI.

Building a Successful Work at home Webstite With SBI.

A work at home at placed on public property, w...

Nothing Beats Working From Home

According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are thinking about starting a home-based business. You are not alone. Start today and be there first.

  • More and more people are dropping out of the rat race to provide services and/or goods from home. Start part-time and build until you can drop the “day job.”
(We love receiving “I quit my day job e-mails.” See these Case Studies and then plan your own future.)
  • For many, working from home is the best choice (ex., the stay-at-home spouse, or those who are retired).
  • For others, working from home may be the only option (ex., house-bound due to health or to care for elderly parents).
  • And it has even proven to be an excellent (if unexpected) opportunity for hundreds of thousands (ex., the “downsized”).

But…
This area is fraught with “get rich quick” schemes. So evaluate the opportunities carefully. Anything that offers great rewards for no-or-low work is a fraud. Think about it — why would they need you?

Bad News, Good News

Building a real business, no matter what kind of business, requires work. “That’s the bad news.”
The good news is that there has never been a better time to start a business from home. The Internet makes it a low-cost (i.e., low-risk), high-potential route.
Forget the long string of “classic work-at-home” dead-end jobs (ex., envelope-stuffing and telemarketing). Use the Web to build something terrific that excites you, a business to be proud of, that you own, and that earns you substantial income.
Do you have any idea how proud the small business people on our Family Bulletin Board are when they tell friends what they NOW do for a living? Join thousands just like them — take control and start your own home-based business.

Bottom Line? Use the Web to Build Something Real.
Only One Question…. How??

What do you know about the Net really? The technical side of things? Search engines? Those and other barriers keep non-experts out of this world-opening opportunity.
Not any more.
Site Build It! removes all the barriers. You still have to work to build a business, of course. Anyone who tells you that you do not have to put effort into building something real is lying to you.
But that’s all you have to focus upon. No “HTML.” No “FTP.” No programming. No Search Engine Optimization. SBI! takes care of all the non-business, technical, tedious matters. You focus on growing a business.
That’s the way it should be. And that’s the way it will be in 7 years. SBI! is unique, next-generation Web hosting that empowers its owners to beat the competition (61% of SBI! sites are in the Top 3% of all sites). Everything else is old-fashioned.
Don’t wait. Get that all-important head-start now.

How Does SBI! Work?

In a nutshell…
1) Your site builds targeted, interested visitors.
2) Your site PREsells through high-value information.
3) Your site convert visitors into buyers, whether you are…

  • a professional selling a service (locally, globally, or both)
  • a distributor or network marketing representative
  • an “infopreneur,” monetizing through AdSense, affiliate programs and referrals/finder fees
  • selling a service to local or global clientele
  • offering any other product — digital or hard goods.

    Beat the Rush

    Remember that Harris poll?
72% of American households are thinking about starting a home-based business.
Stay-at-home spouses build businesses with SBI! that start as the “second income stream” for the family, but grow to become the primary one!
Or do you have a 9-5 that you despise and want to start your own home-based business? You are less than a year away from “quitting the day job.”
Start a home business and use SBI! to build your own business to achieve independence (the all-important “it” in Site Build It!). The horizons are endless.
As you read the rest of this site, do a self-inventory. What do you know well? Then get started!
    How?
It’s simple, you’ll use a complete set of integrated tools to execute the natural, powerful process that takes advantage of the fundamental way that people use the Web.

Site Build It! (SBI!) is the only all-in-one site-building, site-hosting, and site-marketing product that makes it easy for you to build a professional, popular, and profitable business.

    Net Result?
    SBI! Delivers Success

Actually, it OVERdelivers. And success, of course, is the bottom line.
SBI! sites succeed. And we prove it. SiteSell is the only company in the world that proves success.
Other companies would, of course, if they could. But 99% of their small business sites fail. You cannot afford to lose a year of your life and thousands of dollars, which is what failure costs.p Read more about Site Build It!. It’s all about the “it” in Site Build It!. Start here.
